LAHORE (25-08-26): Delegation led by Prof Dr Yu Jiang from Northwest A&F University (NWAFU) Shaanxi, China visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore called on Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani.
Meanwhile a meeting was held in UVAS with delegation and Prof Dr Masood Rabbani presided over the meeting while Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Dean Faculty of Bio-sciences Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman and a number of UVAS senior faculty members from different departments were present in the meeting.
They discussed regarding prospective faculty and student exchange programs, research collaboration, mutual academic interest & potential areas of collaboration with particular focus on animal genomics, biotechnology and research in livestock & veterinary science.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Masood Rabbani welcome them in 144 years historic institution UVAS and he showed university video documentary to give an overview of UVAS research, development interventions, student strength and collaboration with national and international institutions etc. He said that the Punjab government is taking various measures to increase the profits of livestock farmers and facilitate the export of Pakistani meat to international markets; furthermore, special attention is being paid to resolving obstacles hindering meat exports and meeting international standards. He said that the livelihood of the majority of Punjab’s rural population depends on livestock, and the Punjab government has established 114 cattle markets for this purpose, where livestock are bought and sold.
Dr Yu Jiang delivered a detailed presentation covering the introduction, faculties, degree programs, student body, and academic and research activities of Northwest A&F University (NWAFU). He told that the university currently has 160 faculty members and 2,476 students, additionally 1,272 research papers have been published and 116 patents secured. He also discussed in detail the Northwest work and research regarding modern breeding systems.
