LAHORE (02-01-26): Directorate UVAS Sports Board of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore arranged 22nd Annual Sports Day in its City Campus Sports Ground.
Former Chairman UVAS Sports Board Prof Dr Saleem Chaudhary along with UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Muhammad Younus (DLA.I, T.I) and UVAS Chairman Sports Board Prof Dr Muhammad Ijaz inaugurated sports contests in the morning.
Secretary Universities Governor House Lahore Mr Tariq Mahmood Awan was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony while Member Planning & Development Mr Imtiaz Warraich was the guests of honor in the evening.
Students from all campuses included the City Campus Lahore, Ravi Campus Pattoki, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Jhang and Khan Bahadar Choudhry Mushtaq Ahmed College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Narowal participated in sports fixtures which continued till late evening.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Prof Dr Saleem Chaudhary said that he feels glad to see the enthusiasm of UVAS students who actively participate in the different sports activities. He acknowledged the role of UVAS leadership in arranging such a mega event in befitting manners. He said that it is extremely gratifying that the UVAS is paying special attention to enhancing the facilities in the university related to the promotion of extracurricular activities especially sports along with curricular activities, so that students can be provided with opportunities for healthy activities.
While addressing the inauguration ceremony, Prof Dr Muhammad Younus said that UVAS has started the New Year 2026 by organizing a Sports Day in which a large number of students from all UVAS campuses are participating in various competitions. He shared our students enlighten the name of UVAS all over the world by showcasing their talents in competitions held at the national and international levels and the UVAS is included in the list of top ten best universities in Pakistan according to the Higher Education Sports Ranking. He said that in a country where playgrounds are built, prisons and hospitals are deserted and the youth also stay away from evil & drugs and participate more in healthy activities. He welcomed the students and teachers from other campuses and praised their enthusiasm for participating in many sports competitions and he also wished all the attendees a Happy New Year 2026.
At the end of prize distribution ceremony, Prof Dr Muhammad Younus presented the vote of thanks and he appreciated the efforts of the Directorate of UVAS Sports Board for organizing a successful 22nd annual Sports Day 2026. He also prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased UVAS teacher Prof Dr Aftab Ahmed Anjum, Deputy Director Business Incubation Center Qaiser Hussain and those who died in the Jhang accident.
The various contests featuring annual sports day included final races of 800, 200, 100 meter for boys and girls, javelin throw, discuss throw, three leg race, shot-put, relay race, tug of war, long jump, triple jump, chaati race, martial art presentation/gymnastic show, etc.
Mr Ali Haral (DVM) and Ms Zoha Habib from Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences were declared the best athletes of UVAS among male and female categories.
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) 3rd year male team with 82 points won general trophy and female team Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences earned 88 points won general trophies from City Campus Lahore.
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) 4th year Male with 104 points and female DVM team with earned 58 points won the general trophies from Ravi Campus Pattoki.
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) 7th semester from CVAS Jhang Campus and DVM 3rd semester from CVAS Narowal teams won the general trophies.
At the end of the Sport day, VC Prof Dr Younus along with other dignitaries distributed general trophies, medals and shields among the winners of all contests. Earlier, Director Sports Rana Amjad Iqbal shared the achievements of the UVAS players in various sports competitions held in 2024-25 including volleyball, table tennis, handball, kabaddi, badminton, karate, wushu, rugby, chess, wrestling, weightlifting and bodybuilding, etc. He said I am glad to share that UVAS stand among the top ten university of Pakistan according to HEC Sports Ranking while stood on 2nd position among public sector universities of Pakistan in sports.
