Minister Livestock & Fisheries Sindh Muhammad Ali Malkani visits UVAS explore opportunities of collaboration for research training & knowledge exchange to develop human resource in Livestock & Fisheries Departments Sindh

LAHORE (17-07-26): The Minister for Livestock & Fisheries Department Government of Sindh Mr Muhammad Ali Malkani along with Secretary Livestock & Fisheries Department Sindh Dr Kazim Hussain Jatoi and Director General Sindh Institute of Animal Health Karachi Dr Nazeer Hussain Kalhoro paid a visit to the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore called on Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani on Friday.
Meanwhile Minister Livestock & Fisheries Department Mr Muhammad Ali Malkani chaired a meeting with UVAS Senior faculty members, sought suggestion and technical inputs from UVAS experts related to institution best practices, advance research, livestock development model, animal health & disease diagnostic systems, biotechnology applications, vaccine production, local breed improvement as well as explore potential areas for collaboration.
Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Dean Faculty of Bio-sciences Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman and a number of UVAS senior faculty members and administrative officers were present in the meeting.
While addressing the meeting, Mr Muhammad Ali Malkani spoke purpose of his visit to seek innovative ideas and explore opportunities for exchange knowledge between UVAS and Livestock & Fisheries Department Sindh for the capacity building of human resource and the development of Sindh Livestock & Fisheries sectors as well. He expressed his desire to collaborate with UVAS for the promotion training of livestock & Fisheries Department Sindh staff for their capacity building & enhancement of their professional skills. He also wanted in future talented students from Sindh will get admission in DVM degree programme UVAS Lahore. He appreciated UVAS quality of teaching and research facilities for the benefit of livestock farming community.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Masood Rabbani urged Livestock professionals and paravets professionals training related to animal health, research and production for their capacity building to learn about new techniques and skills related to field for the treatment of animals. He said UVAS willing to collaborate with Livestock & Fisheries Department Sindh for professional trainings, local breed improvement, livestock genomics and climate smart farming. He said UVAS is a hub of veterinary profession where a large number of students intake from all over Pakistan every years getting admission on merit. Prof Dr Masood Rabbani also briefed delegation regarding UVAS ongoing projects, initiatives of Punjab Government for livestock sector development and legal frame work to control the use of antibiotics in poultry.
Dr Nazeer Hussain Kalhoro talked about the organization of refresher course of extension education according to modern day need to address livestock issues.
Prof Dr Tehmina Mustafa visits UVAS discusses joint One Health research initiative on zoonotic disease surveillance at livestock human interface
Later, Professor of Global Health and Consultant in Internal and Pulmonary Medicine at the Centre for International Health, University of Bergen Norway Dr Tehmina Mustafa visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore called on Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani.
They discussed the future potential of a joint One Health research initiative on zoonotic disease surveillance at the livestock human interface in Punjab. The discussions covered study design, hospital, abattoir partnerships and pathways for joint funding through international funding agencies. UVAS looks forward to a sustained and productive collaboration with the University of Bergen on this important initiative, bridging veterinary and human health research in Pakistan.
