LAHORE (14-04-25): The Faculty of Veterinary Science of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with Orient Traders International arranged a National Symposium on ‘Bovine Ephemeral Fever: Challenges and Control Strategies’ held at UVAS City Campus.
Director General Research Livestock Department Punjab Dr Sajjad Kashfi presided over the inaugural session of symposium and sought suggestions/recommendation and technical inputs from the experts that how to control bovine ephemeral fever and its control strategies to boost livestock sector in Punjab while Chief Executive Officer Orient Traders International Dr Khalid Iqbal was the Guest of Honour.
Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani, Director Institute of Microbiology Prof Dr Aftab Ahmad Anjum, Director Training Center for Biologics Production Prof Dr Amir Ghafoor Bajwa, Retired Prof Dr Akram Munir and number of faculty members, students, farmers, industry representatives and professionals from public and private sectors attended the symposium.
While addressing the inaugural session, Dr Sajjad Kashfi spoke about the role of Livestock Department for the control of bovine ephemeral fever and lumpy skin diseases in Punjab. He lauded UVAS vital role in controlling different disease side by side with livestock department. He said Livestock Department ready to collaborate with UVAS in conducting research to curb challenges/diseases facing livestock sector.
Dr Khalid Iqbal shared his success story of life with the audience of the symposium. He said Orient Traders International providing best veterinary medicine at the door step of farmers to save their dairy animals from different diseases.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani said that UVAS provides the best platform to stakeholders, researchers/professionals to find out measures of bovine ephemeral fever issues, which is an impediment in the development of livestock sector and causing national economic loss. She said such symposium is the key to curb disease related issues to boost livestock sector in Pakistan. She said recommendation from symposium experts will be very beneficial for enhancing milk and meat production of livestock farming community as well as to save their dairy animals from ephemeral fever disease. Prof Dr Arfan Ahmad spoke about the objectives of the symposium.
Various aspects have been discussed during daylong symposium related to dairy industry of Pakistan opportunities and challenges, bovine ephemeral fever virus an emerging threat for dairy industry of Pakistan, management strategies for the treatment, control and prevention of bovine ephemeral fever virus, diagnostic approaches for confirmation of bovine ephemeral fever virus and a detailed panels discussion conducted in the symposium.
