Biography

Prof. Dr. Nasim Ahmad is currently working as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore. He is Professor Emeritus in the same institution which is a distinguished position. Under his leadership, a team of microbiologists was successful in establishing a Biosafety Level-3 laboratory at UVAS for early recognition and rapid diagnosis of COVID-19 to help out the community. During the challenging time of pandemic he introduced the concept of veterinary telemedicine for effective benefit of the animal owners. During this period UVAS has been ranked 3rd in the HEC sports ranking. He currently member of the syndicate of the University of Education as well as the Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bahawalpur. Moreover, He is member of the selection board of Kohsar University, Murree.

Prof. Dr. Nasim Ahmad graduated in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in 1981 and received his Master’s degree (MSc Hons) in Animal Reproduction in 1984, from the College of Veterinary Sciences, Lahore, and Ph.D. in Reproductive Physiology in 1996 from West Virginia University, USA. He has served as first Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Director ORIC and Professor (Tenured) at UVAS. He earlier served as Dean of Faculty of Life Sciences and Business Management, as well as Faculty of Veterinary Science, and Chairman, Department of Theriogenology at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore. His research interests are improving fertility through enhancing post-thaw semen quality and optimizing protocols of estrus synchronization and ovulation. Earlier, he directed a male infertility laboratory (for humans) in New York. He is credited with introducing the use of ultrasonography in Animal Reproduction research, training, and extension in Pakistan. Prof. Dr. Ahmad is the author of more than seventy publications in high-impact factor journals. His total impact factor is more than 90. He has more than 2500 citations.

He is a regular reviewer for Theriogenology and Animal Reproduction Science journals. He has won competitive research grants as PI worth more than Rs. 39.3 million and development projects of more than Rs. 474 million. He has supervised or co-supervised seventy Master and twelve Doctoral students. He remained Honorary Secretary of the Society of Prevention of Cruelty of Animals, Punjab. In recognition of his research work and he has been awarded “PARC Scientist of the year: 1999”, Research Productivity Allowance three times from PCST, Best University Teacher Award for the year 2007 from HEC, and Sitara-e-Imtiaz 2008, Presidential Civil Award.
