Biography

Dr. Muhammad Ijaz is working as Chairman and Tenured Professor of Veterinary Medicine at University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore. He holds DVM, MPhil, and PhD degrees in Veterinary Medicine coupled with intensive Post Doctorate training obtained from Cornell University, USA.

During his professional career, Prof. Ijaz has won seven research projects worth over 42 million PKR and laid the foundation for a cutting-edge Medicine Research Laboratory at UVAS Lahore. A recent milestone in his career is the development of a polyvalent Staphylococcus aureus vaccine to combat bovine mastitis. He has supervised 13 PhD and 39 MPhil students. Prof. Ijaz has authored 07 books, 09 book chapters, and published over 190 scientific articles, commanding an outstanding Impact Factor of 272.584. His scholarly contributions have been reflected in over 2700 scholarly citations.

Beyond academia, Professor Ijaz, as a Project Director, leads the "Establishment of the National Wrestling Academy and Swimming Pool" project at UVAS Lahore, valued at 250 million rupees. He also orchestrated the UVAS Flood Relief Campaign 2022-23, raising over 30 million rupees from the private sector to aid nine flood-affected areas of Pakistan, earning the university the Flood Hero Award from the Prime Minister. Admiring his efforts for flood affected families, Prof. Ijaz was conferred “Unsung Hero Award” by Alkhudmat Foundation. Prof. Ijaz has played a key role in the preparation of the Punjab Livestock Policy 2020-21.

His exemplary contributions have earned him accolades, including the Best University Teacher Award 2015 bestowed by the Higher Education Commission Pakistan, the distinguished Status of Associate Fellow accorded by the UK Higher Education, a Certificate of Achievement recognizing his effectiveness in training by the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, and PAS Gold Medal-2023 in the field of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences awarded by the Council of Pakistan Academy of Sciences. Furthermore, His nomination by the Government of Pakistan to serve as a distinguished member of the Scientific Commission on Animal Diseases to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) emphasizes his global impact and expertise in the realms of animal health and disease management.
