Biography
She has 34 years’ experience in Clinical Medicine and Livestock Extension. I am, teaching undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma course in University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. Currently I am serving as Dean Faculty of veterinary Sciences ,UVAS, Lahore. I also Hold the office of the principal officer students Affairs. She is the member of the curriculum/Syllabi review committee of Pakistan veterinary medical council for the review of the post-graduation degree programs of veterinary and animal husbandry.
My research work is on Tick borne infections. During Post-doc period in Medical and Biological Sciences, at University of Minnesota, I studied Lyme Borreliosis in elk, moose and wolf. She also worked at VDL Saint Paul campus on the role of type-2 turkey astrovirus in poultry enteritis syndrome during my Post-doc period. On my return back to Pakistan, She was assigned responsibility of Chairperson, Department of Clinical Medicine and Surgery. She developed Clinical Medicine laboratory and initiated UVAS 24/7 Extension service. She also served as Director, Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) and Director Continuing Education and Extension in university on account of my experience in livestock extension. I worked as Field Officers Training Manager, Vocational and Rural Women in Federal Govt. Project of Pakistan Dairy Development Project on deputation from UVAS for one year. I am affiliated with many organizations in veterinary and animal sciences at national and international level. I am member of steering committee WWF.I have developed extension material for CELDAC project Nestle Pakistan and hand books for field work with farming community. Won Star Laureate Award on Women in Science and Technology, 2008.I have won HEC grants on Epidemiology of Theileriosis in Bovine (completed). Bacterial, Viral and Parasitic Causes of Foal Diarrhea. (NRPU, HEC). She has also completed HEC funded project on Awareness of water borne diseases and provision of safe drinking water to rural community in Pattoki, Punjab Pakistan and Rural women— invisible guardians in goat farming in district Kasur, Pakistan (Funded by HEC, Pak).HEC project on Novel drug development from Calotropis procera (2023). Civic Engagement Project is ongoing extension Project along with Pak-US Collaborative project on Capacity Building of neglected vector borne diseases of livestock (Funded by HEC, Pak) started 2017 till to date, Pilot Project on sustainable forage and herbal deworming in rangelands in Chakwal. (Funded by HEC, Pak) and Biogas plant an alternative to save trees and restore soil degradation in Pattoki District Kasur (Funded by HEC, Pak). I am supervising 5 PhD students while 15 students have completed their PhD under my supervision and member of supervisory committee of 17 students who have completed PhD degree Programme. Eight MPhil Students are currently being supervised while 123 MPhil Students have completed M.Phil. degree program major supervisor and as member of supervisory committee. Her student research is mostly on disease diagnosis, prevention and epidemiological aspect of livestock and wildlife. She has plans to work on neglected and nosocomial diseases, antibiotic resistance in domestic animals. My mission is capacity building of professionals, paraprofessionals and livestock owners for community development for welfare of livestock sector by providing research as service taking into account the easily measured efficiency indicators analysis and their application to stake holders as per their needs. The overall aim is to work towards efficiency of service management including research as component in Livestock Development
Area of Interest
- Won HEC research grant under NRPU programme .The two year project # 666 titled Epidemiology and economic losses of theileriosis in Bovine was successfully completed.
- Conducted research on epidemiology, serodiagnosis and chemoprophylaxis of theileriosis in six different districts of Pakistan during P.hD. Used herbal plant,Calotropis procera, for treatment of theileriosis with successful results. Calotropis procera is an alternative to Buparvaquone. Looking forward to develop patent herbal medicine for theileriosis from this herbal plant.
- Have interest in tick borne diseases with special reference to public health. Did research on tick borne diseases in Minnesota in wild animals and provided useful results of research to the Department of Natural Resources, Minnesota for planning effective control measures for these diseases in moose population. Have interest to learn modern diagnostic tools and tests in research and work on tick borne diseases from public health perspective in Pakistan. Also have interests in adoptive research in my field and in planning and running projects for dairy farmers and rural women trainings of Pakistan.
