Biography
Dr Sidra Safdar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Wildlife and Ecology, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore. She won her M Sc from University of the Punjab, Lahore with distinction and was awarded the University Gold Medal and Sir William Roberts Gold medal by the University. She holds her M Phil in Environmental Sciences from College of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of the Punjab, Lahore. Her research entitled “Avian Diversity Analysis of Punjab University, New Campus in Relation to Land Use Change” encompassed the role of land use change upon the avifauna of Punjab University. She completed her PhD in Zoology from University of the Punjab with focus upon environmental health issues in Pakistan. Her research involved monitoring of the indoor air quality of residential houses of Lahore; an area which has been largely ignored in Pakistan. She served as a College Teaching Internee (CTI) in the Government College of Science, Wahdat Road, Lahore from November 2010 till October, 2011. She has also served as a research scholar in a British Council funded project “Transnational Education Programme Development” from September, 2012 till February 2015 when she joined the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore. Her duties included monitoring of particulate matter at different altitudes, indoor and ambient environments of UK and Pakistan, monitoring of grasslands, wetlands and woodland ecosystems for climate change in Pakistan and other related field work of TNE programme. She has also been working as an editorial assistant for proceeding of conference entitled “Wildlife & Aerobiology” published by the Journal of Animal and Plant Sciences (JAPS) in 2015. She is a member of the Aerosol Society, UK and Environmental Protection UK (EPUK).
Area of Interest
- Air quality monitoring and analysis of particulate matter, gaseous pollutants like CO2, NOx, VOCs, and bioaerosols in different indoor micro-environments of rural and urban areas
- Impact of altitudes upon the ambient levels of particulate matter
- Land use change and its impact upon animal distribution, particularly avian diversity
- Monitoring of grasslands, wetlands and woodland ecosystems for climate change in Pakistan
- Vermiculture and vermicomposting of organic waste using different earthworm species
- Microplastic isolation and characterization in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and its impact upon living organisms

UVAS observes Youm-e-Tashakur to pay rich tribute to Pak Army
LAHORE (15-05-25): The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore observed “Youm-e-Tashakur” to honor the Pakistan Armed Forces for strongly responding to Indian aggression and successfully carrying out Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos to protect the country.
UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Muhammad Younus (DLA.I, T.I) along with Chairperson of the Chief Minister’s Directorate of Evaluation, Feedback, Inspection and Monitoring (DEFIM) Brigadier (Retired) Babar Alauddin led the walk in city campus while Deans, Director Chairman/Chairpersons and a large number of students from different departments of UVAS, faculty members and administrative staff participated. Walk started form Vice-Chancellor office and culminated infront of Main Lawn after taking round of City Campus.
The walk participants chanted patriotic slogans and waved flags, showing strong support for the military and the success of Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos.
While addressing the media Babar Alauddin paid rich tribute to the Pakistani armed forces for giving a befitting response to Indian aggression. He said Pakistan army successfully shoots down five Indian fighter jets and destroyed an Indian S-400 air defense system in minimum time. He said Pakistan Army’s motto is “Iman, Taqwa, Jihad fi Sabilillah” and Pak Army always ready for jihad to save our country.
Prof Dr Muhammad Younus said that Pak army dealt Indian army with iron hand and successful targeted Indian air bases and we thanks to the Pakistan Armed Forces & the entire nation holds its head high with pride.
As part of the Plant for Pakistan campaign, Babar Alauddin also planted a sapling in front of UVAS Vice-Chancellor Office for the promotion of greenery in UVAS.
Similar activities also held in other campuses of UVAS to express solidarity with Pak Army including its Ravi Campus Pattoki, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (CVAS) Jhang, Khan Bahadur Chaudhary Mushtaq Ahmad College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (KBCMA-CVAS) Narowal and Para-Veterinary Institute Karor Lal-Eason Layyah.
Chairperson DEFIM Brigadier (Retired) Babar Alauddin visits UVAS
LAHORE (15-05-25): Chairperson of the Chief Minister’s Directorate of Evaluation, Feedback, Inspection and Monitoring (DEFIM) Brigadier (Retired) Babar Alauddin visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore and called on Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Muhammad Younus (DLA.I, T.I) on Thursday.
Meanwhile a meeting was held at City Campus with senior faculty members of UVAS. Brigadier (Retired) Babar Alauddin and Prof Dr Muhammad Younus co-chaired meeting while Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani, Dean Faculty of Bio-sciences Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Business Management Prof Dr Muhammad Azam, Registrar Sajjad Hyder and senior UVAS professors were present.
Babar Alauddin said that UVAS is a historic institution of our country playing vital role in the development of livestock sector to enhance milk and meat production in Pakistan by utilizing its trained human resource, knowledge and skills. He also lauded the role of UVAS leadership for the uplift of veterinary profession to impart latest innovative knowledge to students.
Prof Dr Muhammad Younus said that a large number of students from different provinces of Pakistan as well as from different countries of the world getting admissions in UVAS every year. He said UVAS also provided testing service to a large number of public during corona pandemic. He said UVAS generating income from out source of land by harvesting crops, launching different degree programmes and also earn from national and international funding agencies through research projects which won by UVAS faculty.
Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani said that through civic engagement programmes UVAS providing veterinary services at the door steps of poor livestock farming community to save their animals from different diseases.
Later an interactive session with students arranged and Babar Alauddin delivered a detailed lecture to UVAS students. He shared different programmes related to Honhaar scholarship programme, Lap Tops distribution scheme, Skill Development & Internship programmes recently launched for students by Punjab government. He advised students to get maximum benefits from these programmes for their bright future. He urged on the importance of entrepreneurships and said students must start their own business & develop their business ideas. He said UVAS trained man power play their role in the development of livestock especially its local breed to enhance milk and meat production in Pakistan through adopting latest practices, research & development (R&D).
At the end of interactive session Babar Alauddin along with other dignitaries distributed blazers among the proctors of UVAS.
