Biography

Muhammad Hassan Mushtaq graduated as Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from College of Veterinary Sciences, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan in year 2000. He started his professional career as Entrepreneur in Poultry Production Sector. Afterwards, completed M.Sc. (Hons.) Veterinary Pathology from University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore. Joined Hi-Tech Poultry Breeders Pvt Ltd and worked at Broiler Breeder farms and Diagnostic Laboratory of the company. He was awarded scholarship for PhD studies from overseas through Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in year 2005 and completed doctoral degree in discipline of Preventive Veterinary Medicine in year 2008 from Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing, P. R. China. After completion of PhD in 2008, he worked as Assistant Professor in National Center of Excellence in Molecular Biology, University of the Punjab, Pakistan for one year. He worked in Hepatitis Control Project focusing on large scale commercial production of Interferon as biopharmaceutical product. Later, he joined department of Epidemiology and Public Health, Faculty of Veterinary Science at his parent institution, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan in year 2010. Currently, he is working as Professor and Head of the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health.

He is involved in teaching One Health, Epidemiology and Public Health courses to undergraduate students of different degree programs including Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Medical Laboratory Technology, BS Applied Microbiology and BS Poultry Sciences. As postgraduate supervisor he is supervising MPhil students of Epidemiology and Public Health program, One Health program and PhD student of Epidemiology and Public Health program. He is actively involved in research activities focusing on Epidemiology of Livestock Diseases, Zoonotic Diseases, Food Safety and research using One Health Approach.

He is regular member of statutory bodies, academic and non academic committees of university. He is also member of several committees/working groups to extend services to community, industry and other government departments or non government departments. He has been part of Policy making, Act drafting/approval process and published several Policy documents. He worked as consultant in various national/international funded projects and developed strategies/Action Plans for disease prevention and control.

He attends professional training courses from recognized national/international institutions to explore research opportunities with solid foundations for successful research work. He is member of Editorial board and review committee of International Journals. His research work has been published in well reputed international refereed journals. He also presented and shared significant research finding at different national and international scientific platforms. He is member of different national and international professional societies and associations.

Epidemiology of emerging and re-emerging diseases, Zoonotic diseases (Influenza, Rabies, Mycobacterium, Brucellosis, Toxoplasmosis etc), Molecular Characterization and Phylogenetic analysis of different pathogens, Foodborne pathogens, One Health approach, Food safety management system, Legislation and policy work related to disease control
