Biography

M. Afzal Rashid has been with UVAS since 2012, and currently working as an Assistant Professor (TTS) in the Department of Animal Nutrition. He holds a DVM (1999-2003: UVAS Lahore) and Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition (2013: UVAS-Lahore). Under HEC IRSIP fellowship program, he spent around 10 months at SDSU and completed experiments on Holstein calves. His area of interest is calf nutrition and management with an emphasis on early weaning and rumen development in buffalo and cattle calves; as well as evaluation of alternative feed resources to reduce the cost of feeding in dairy animals and fattening. His interest in small ruminants has allowed him to work on growth rates of fattening lambs and bucks. He has been involved in teaching undergraduate and post-graduate theory and practical classes. He is involved in establishment of modern Nutrition Lab in Pattoki. Apart from his academic activities, he is also engaged in extension work and is working with Nutrition Focus Group (ASLP), NAP and conducted several farmer trainings.

Dr. M. A. Rashid has authored 62 publications, yielding a cumulative impact factor of 35. These comprise 1 extension booklet, 4 popular press publications, 5 abstracts, and 4 extension articles. He has secured 11 research grants, 5 of which were as the Principal Investigator (totaling Rs. 33.993 Million) and 6 as either Co-Principal Investigator or member (amounting to Rs. 76.89 Million). With regard to supervision, he has overseen 4 Ph.D. and 37 M. Phil. students, acting as primary supervisor for 20 and as a committee member for the remaining 17. Presently, he is directly supervising 3 M. Phil. students. Moreover, he has actively contributed as a resource person in more than 12 international and national conferences and workshops.
