International Workshop on Pathology of Companion Animals

The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), in collaboration with the Global Health Pathology Network (GHPN) and the Davis Thompson Foundation, USA, is pleased to announce a three-day hands-on Workshop on Pathology of Companion Animals, scheduled from 9th to 11th February 2026. This intensive workshop is designed to strengthen diagnostic skills through interactive learning, real clinical case discussions, and practical exposure to cytology, histopathology, necropsy techniques, and disease correlation in companion animals.

A unique feature of this workshop is the participation of two eminent veterinary pathologists from the United States as international resource persons, who will share their expertise, global perspectives, and best practices in companion animal diagnostic pathology. The program emphasizes practical application of diagnostic pathology to enhance clinical decision-making, laboratory utilization, and overall patient outcomes.

Benefits of the Workshop

Participants will benefit from high-impact, practice-oriented training delivered through expert-led sessions and hands-on activities. The workshop will enhance the ability to interpret cytology and histopathology, correlate gross and microscopic lesions with clinical findings, recognize common neoplastic and infectious diseases of companion animals, and apply diagnostic information effectively in routine veterinary practice. Students will gain structured foundational skills, while clinicians and faculty will refine diagnostic accuracy and clinical efficiency through exposure to international expertise.

Learning Objectives (Summary)

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and interpret normal and abnormal cells in blood smears, cytology, and histopathology
  • Correlate gross, cytologic, and histopathologic findings with clinical presentation in companion animals
  • Recognize key histologic features of neoplasia and malignancy in dogs and cats
  • Perform necropsies using a systematic diagnostic approach and collect appropriate samples for ancillary testing
  • Improve utilization of laboratory diagnostic services for enhanced clinical outcomes
