The livestock sector plays a vital role in Pakistan’s economy, including food security, rural livelihoods, and the national GDP. However, this industry continues to face persistent threats such as parasitic diseases, reduced productivity, and challenges in the development of effective vaccines. To overcome these challenges, modern diagnostic and research tools are essential.

In this context, the visionary leadership of the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Professor Emeritus Dr. Masood Rabbani (Izaz-e-Fazeelat), strongly emphasizes the importance of disease prevention in livestock. In line with this vision, the Department of Parasitology at UVAS is actively engaged in research projects focused on the development of modern vaccines and diagnostic kits, as well as the study of various parasitic diseases. This department is functioning under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Kamran Ashraf, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences. The significant contributions of distinguished scientists, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Imran Rashid, Prof. Dr. Haroon Akbar and Dr. Muhammad Suleman, are also noteworthy in this regard.

The Department of Parasitology continuously organizes workshops, conferences, seminars, and farmer awareness programs to address these challenges. In the present era, various technologies are being used to study the immune system at the research level. Among these, flow cytometry is one of the most important. This powerful analytical technology is revolutionizing veterinary research by enabling rapid and accurate analysis of immune responses at the cellular level.

In this context, the Department of Parasitology, UVAS Lahore, is pleased to announce a two-day hands-on workshop titled:

“Applications of Flow Cytometry to Study Immune Response Against Vaccines”

This workshop will be held on 13–14 May 2026 from 10:30hr to 16:00hr at the Immunology Laboratory, Department of Parasitology, UVAS Lahore.

The workshop will highlight key challenges faced by Pakistan’s livestock industry, particularly parasitic diseases that negatively affect animal health, productivity, and economic profitability. It will also emphasize modern approaches to vaccine development and the role of advanced scientific technologies in understanding the immune system.

Participants will be introduced to the basic principles of flow cytometry and its practical applications in veterinary sciences, including immune cell identification, disease diagnosis, and evaluation of vaccine responses. Furthermore, hands-on guidance will be provided on the interpretation of flow cytometry data, including scatter plot analysis, gating strategies, and fluorescence signal interpretation.

This workshop is highly beneficial for veterinarians, researchers, postgraduate students, and professionals associated with livestock, immunology, and related fields. It offers an excellent opportunity to gain modern research and diagnostic skills.
