World Egg Day observed at UVAS

LAHORE (13-10-25): The Department of Poultry Production of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore in collaboration with the Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) and Roomi Poultry observed ‘World Egg Day’ with the theme of “The Mighty Egg: Packed with Natural Nutrition” in a befitting manner at Ravi Campus Pattoki.

Various activities, including a seminar, a walk, informative video about egg nutrition, singing performance by students, dishes cooking competitions featured the day to create awareness among public about the nutritional value of egg and its importance for the growth of human body. Similar activities were also held at other campuses of UVAS.

Central Chairman Pakistan Poultry Association Mr Abdul Basit presided over the seminar and Chief Executive Officer Sabir Poultry Dr FM Sabir was the guest of honour while UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Muhammad Younus (DLA.I, T.I), Vice Chairman North Region PPA Malik Muhammad Sharif, Business Head  Production Farm Roomi Poultry Dr Raza Khursid, International Consultant Dr Hanif Nazir Chauhdary, Dean Faculty of Animal Production and Technology Prof Dr Saima, Chairman Department of Poultry Production Dr Jibran Hussain, Dr Faisal Hasnain, poultry professionals/representatives from poultry industries and a large number of students from different public & private sectors institution, UVAS faculty members were present.

While addressing the seminar audience, Mr Abdul Basit said that egg is the unique and affordable source of getting protein which is the basic need for the growth of human body. He said eating egg is the key to eliminate malnutrition issues in our country.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Muhammad Younus said that it is direly needed to work on the enhancement of egg production to strengthen poultry sector in Pakistan. Emphasizing the importance of entrepreneurship Prof Younus advised the students to start their own businesses in the future and become job creators themselves instead of looking for jobs after completing their degrees. He lauded the organizers to arrange a successful event to highlight the importance of egg.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Prof Dr Saima also spoke about the nutritional importance of egg. Dr Muhammad Usman gave a presentation on egg benefits for a healthy nation and the importance of protein in human diet. Dr Jibran Hussain said that this is a unique opportunity to raise awareness about the benefits of egg and its important role in daily routine life. He called PPA to start school meal programme in the Pattoki areas and provide an egg and drumstick in the class rooms of different schools to curb malnutrition issues in growing age.

Earlier, Mr Abdul Basit along with Prof Dr Muhammad Younus and other dignitaries & students led the walk which started from Information Technology Center A Block and culminated at the Akram Complex. At the end of seminar, Mr Abdul Basit along with Prof Dr Younus, Dr Saima, Dr Jibran and other dignitaries distributed cash prizes among the winners of all competitions.
