LAHORE (27-02-25): Directorate UVAS Sports Board of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore arranged 21st Annual Sports Day in its City Campus Sports Ground.
Secretary Livestock & Dairy Development Department Punjab Mr Saqib Ali Ateel along with UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Muhammad Younus (DLA.I, T.I) and UVAS Chairman Sports Board Prof Dr Muhammad Ijaz inaugurated sports contests in the morning.
UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Muhammad Younus (DLA.I, T.I) was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony while Director General HEC Lahore Regional Mr Ghulam Nabi and Former Hockey Olympian Khawaja Junaid were guests of honor in the evening.
Students from all campuses included the City Campus Lahore, Ravi Campus Pattoki, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Jhang and Khan Bahadar Choudhry Mushtaq Ahmed College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Narowal participated in sports fixtures which continued till late evening.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Secretary Livestock Saqib Ali Ateel said he feels glad to see the enthusiasm of UVAS students who actively participate in the different sports activities. He acknowledged the role of Directorate UVAS Sports Board in arranging such a mega event in befitting manners. He said such events will be memorable for students those who participate in contests and showing their performances.
While addressing the concluding ceremony, Prof Dr Muhammad Younus said that UVAS provides state of the art sports facilities to students for the promotion of sports activities in university. He said UVAS students clinched positions and secured different medals through their performance nationally and internationally and enlighten UVAS name in the world and its all credit goes to UVAS Sports Board. He lauded UVAS Sports Board efforts in arranging successful sports event in the university and providing opportunities to students to showing their performances. He said the country where the playgrounds are inhabited, its hospitals remain deserted and the youths stay away from evil. He congratulated the winning teams of the contests and thanked all the faculty and students who actively participated in annual sports competitions. He thanked HEC for providing financial assistance for the establishing state of the art wrestling academy and support center as per international standards for promoting sports activities in university.
The various contests featuring annual sports day included final races of 800, 200, 100 meter for boys and girls, javelin throw, discuss throw, three leg race, shot-put, relay race, tug of war, long jump, triple jump, chaati race, martial art presentation/gymnastic show, etc.
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) 3rd year male team with 108 points won general trophy and female team Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences earned 66 points won general trophies from City Campus Lahore.
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Male with 66 points and female Zoology team with earned 68 points won the general trophies from Ravi Campus.
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) 6th semester from CVAS Jhang Campus and DVM 7th semester from CVAS Narowal teams won the general trophies.
At the end of the Sport day, VC Prof Dr Younus along with other dignitaries distributed general trophies, medals and shields among the winners of all contests. Earlier, Director Sports Rana Amjad Iqbal shared the achievements of the UVAS players in various sports competitions held in 2023-24 including volleyball, table tennis, handball, kabaddi, badminton, karate, wushu, rugby, chess, wrestling, weightlifting and bodybuilding, etc. He said I am glad to share that UVAS stand among the top ten university of Pakistan according to HEC latest Sports Ranking.
