LAHORE (11-10-24): The Department of Poultry Production of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore in collaboration with the Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) observed ‘World Egg Day’ with the theme of “United by Eggs” in a befitting manner at Ravi Campus Pattoki on Friday.
Various activities, including a seminar, a walk, informative video about egg nutrition, singing performance by students from special education school, egg eating & dishes cooking competitions featured the day to create awareness among public about the nutritional value of egg and its importance for the growth of human body. Similar activities were also held at other campuses of UVAS.
Chairman Pakistan Poultry Association Central Zone Mr Abdul Basit presided over the seminar and Chairman Sabir Poultry Dr FM Sabir was the guest of Honour while UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Muhammad Younus (DLA.I, T.I), Vice Chairman PPA Malik Muhammad Sharif, Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani, Dean Faculty of Animal Production and Technology Prof Dr Saima, Chairman Department of Poultry Production Dr Shahid Mehmood and poultry professionals/representatives and a large number of students from different public & private sectors institution, UVAS faculty members & students were present.
While addressing the seminar audience, Mr Abdul Basit said that PPA is providing an egg and drum stick in the class rooms of different schools to curb malnutrition issues in growing age students by providing them an egg in their class rooms on regular basis. He said eating egg is the key to eliminate malnutrition issues in our country.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Muhammad Younus said that egg is the unique and affordable source of getting protein which is the basic need for the growth of human body. He said it is direly needed to work on the enhancement of egg production to strengthen poultry sector in Pakistan. He lauded the organizer to arrange a successful event to highlight the importance of egg. He thanked PPA for providing assistance to UVAS students in terms of internship for their bright future.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Prof Dr Saima also spoke about the nutritional importance of egg. Dr Jibran Hussain gave a presentation on egg benefits for a healthy nation and the importance of protein in human diet. Dr Shahid Mehmood said that this is a unique opportunity to raise awareness about the benefits of egg and its important role in daily routine life and also presented the vote of thanks.
Earlier, Mr Abdul Basit along with other dignitaries & students led the walk which started from Information Technology Center A Block and culminated at the Akram Complex.
At the end of seminar, Mr Abdul Basit along with Prof Dr Younus, Dr Saima, Dr Shahid Mehmood and other dignitaries distributed cash prizes among the winners of all competitions.
